In 1988, the Sabha organised for TVAKL Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shanker’s sitar performance in Kuala Lumpur under the Chairmanship of the late Tan Sri C Selvarajah. The performance, held at the Putra World Trade Centre, was patronised by Prime Minister YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammed.

Celebrating Swami Vivekananda's 155th Birth Anniversary - May 2018

The Vivekananda Ashrama and the Sangeetha Abivirithi Sabha Buildings.

On 23 January 1955, Kunrakuddi Tirukailaya Parambarai Tiruannamali Aathinam Srilasri Daivasigamani Arunachala Thesiga Paramacharuya Swamigal, “Kunrakuddi Adigalar” bestowed the title of “Kalaivalarkum Nammbi” on Mr S Kandiah for his services as the Manager of the Vivekananda schools and his involvement in the activities of the Sabha.

Religious Conferences and Talks in the 1940s.

In the 1950s and 1960s and later in the 1980s, His Holiness Thirumuruga Kirupanandha Variyar, a Shaivite spiritual teachers and an ardent Murugan devotee  from India visited Malaysia and had religious lectures in the Ashrama .

5th July 1975 - The Ashrama celebrated its Platinum Jubilee. YB Tan Sri Yaacob bin Dr Abdul Latiff, Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur was the chief guest.  

In 1989 the Ashrama, in its effort to promote Tamil studies, introduced the “Vivekananda Gold Medal “ award. In 1991 and 1993  the award was presented to Mr Rajenthiran and  Ms Alli Nadarajan respectively. Both students, graduates of University of Malaya,  excelled in Tamil Studies. This  function held  in 1989 was held in the Ashrama with the Indian High Commissioner as its chief guest.

In 1971 His Holiness Swami Shantananda Saraswati arrived in Kuala Lumpur for the first time. Although he was hosted by a family all his lectures were initially held in the Ashrama premises. In 1981 he established the Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields.

In September 1993 the Centenary Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated with the installation of Swami Vivekananda’s statue in front of the Ashrama building.

In February 2018, The Ashrama in collaboration with Chinmaya Devotees Society KL conducted Living Skills and education workshops by Swami Anukoolananda , Resident Director, Chinmaya International Residential School, India. The workshops included a session for students at SJK (T) Thamboosamy Pillai School

COVID 19/Raya 2020 Food Distribution

The Ashrama continued to support the  economically challenged families during  the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21 . Over the year , food items and cash were distributed to 400 families of our school students and others  . The 3rd distribution was from 23 - 25 July 2021 to 150 families . The distribution was conducted in compliance with Covid pandemic  Standard Operating Procedures ( SOP) issued by the Government.   The distribution   consisted of food items and cash (RM50)  totalling RM200. The recipients were appreciative of the little gesture .  The Ashrama thanks the main sponsor   for the generous donation for this initiative - Dato’ Chua Song Lim & Datin Koh Sai Eng Foundation Inc .

Swami Vivekananda's 159th Birth Anniversary

On 12 January 2022 was  Swami Vivekananda’s 159 th birth anniversary . Our schools celebrated the birth anniversary in a scale-down manner given the current  Covid-19/ MCO/National  Recovery Plan conditions . The celebrations also included online competition in conjunction with the celebrations .

2022 Maha Shivaratri

The Ashrama celebrated the 2022 Maha Shivaratri in honour of Lord Shiva on Tuesday, 1st March. The spiritual event witnessed prayers, abhishekam and puja through the night for Shivalingam in our prayer room.

In addition, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dharma Shakti celebrated their Maha Shivaratri in the Vivekananda Ashrama Complex. The devotees attending the  event had opportunity to participate in pujas, abhishekam and witnessed cultural shows and spiritual discourses.

D.Y.T.M RAJA MUDA SELANGOR VISITS VIVEKANANDA TAMIL SCHOOL, BRICKFIELDS

History was made on Wednesday 7th September 2022 when D.Y.T.M. Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj came to Kandiah Hall in SJK(T) Vivekananda for the book launch entitled “The Doctor Will See You Now” – a biography of Tan Sri Datuk Dr K. Ampikaipakan authored by his wife Puan Sri Thamayanthi Devi Ampikaipakan JP. The book launched by YB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Md. Yassin. It was the second time D.Y.T.M. Raja Muda of Selangor came to SJK (T) Vivekananda, Brickfields Kuala Lumpur, once in 1952 and again in 2022.

 

Seventy years ago on 2 July 1952, Appudurai Block was opened by Y.T.M. Tengku Abdul Aziz Shah Ibni Sultan Sir Hishamuddin, the Raja Muda of Selangor. It was indeed a momentous moment for the Chairman and Committee of Management of the Vivekananda Ashrama Kuala Lumpur for its dedication to education.   The creation of the Brickfields Campus which consists of a kindergarten, a Tamil school, a Secondary school as well as a Sixth Form hub was made possible by a donation of RM 6 million from the Ministry of Education given to the Ashrama in 2013 when YB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Md. Yassin was the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister.
